Restaurants Big and Small
Our list focuses on well-established restaurants with lots of amenities and professional staff. Still, we’re also featuring smaller venues, tiny eateries, coffee shops, and other less-famous places that deserve more recognition. After all, the best food is often found in the most unexpected places. Sure, fancy restaurants with river views are lovely, but don’t miss out on the small food spots dotting Kerrville; this is a foodie town, after all. There are many more restaurants, and we’re surely missing more than one great restaurant on our list.
Chicken Fried Steak
Before we get started, we want to talk about the region’s specialty. It is a dish that most, if not all, local restaurants offer, and that is worth trying in several places to get to know it from different perspectives. Also known as country-fried steak, this dish is not chicken but beef, a thin beef cutlet that is battered and fried like people do with chicken. Similar to the schnitzel but crispier, this Southern classic is an American staple and an ambassador for the region’s cuisine. Try chicken fried steak on your visit to Kerrville and its surroundings, and you’ll never forget it.
